Central Slurry Treatment at the educational farm of the Veterinary Faculty of the Murcia University.

On the 20th of May, the new SELCO-ECOpurín treatment plant was inaugurated at the demonstration farm of the Veterinary Faculty of the Murcia University.

The treatment plant occupies a surface of 200 m2 and its design has accounted for the fact that the it will have an educational purpose, apart from the operational goal to treat and valorize pig slurry. The plant consists of a main ion transfer unit for optimized liquid-solid separation, followed by a biological unit for nutrient reduction by means of low pressure submerged bio-membranes.

The only energy source for the plant is electrical, with a total installed potential of 65.8 kW, supposing an operation regime of 60%, a maximum operation time of 10 hours per day for the main unit and 24 hours for the biological unit. The energy consumption of the plant is 400 kWh/day, or 8.5 kWh/m3 of treated pig slurry.

The nominal treatment capacity is 125 m3 of slurry per day, equivalent to 5 m3/h. The obtained fractions will be used for irrigation and fertilization of both gardens and crops of the demonstration farm. Scientific monitoring and handling of the results will be carried out by the University services.
